Moving on, former Australian cricketer Lisa Sthalekar, president of the World Cricketers’ Association, called for Bangladesh authorities to raise standards within the BPL in order to honour future players with a quality experience.
In terms of where the tournament stood in the cricketing sphere, Sthalekar said there were still a lot of the BPL’s issues needing to be resolved and that it needed to step up and bring a more professional outlook for players. Her comments come following the release of a ranking of world leagues, produced by the World Cricketers’ Association based on what players, agents and cricketing establishing see as important in major T20 competitions
Ten authoritative T20 tournaments were evaluated on a range of criteria measuring factors like experience, business credibility and professionalism — all three regarded as the main reasons for attracting players. The report named The Hundred top-ranked with the highest overall score, ahead of South Africa’s SA20 and India’s Indian Premier League.
However, the Bangladesh Premier League hit rock bottom in our rankings. The result underlined wider worries that have plagued the competition in recent seasons, including claims of overdue bonuses to players and administrative hurdles, as well as being INFAMOUS for scandals involving corruption and spot-fixing. The perception of these issues has damaged the standing of the tournament, making it less attractive to overseas cricketers than rival leagues.
Sthalekar thinks that the Cricket Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB), set up recently, can assist in improving conditions for players. She urged the organisation to collaborate more closely with the Bangladesh Cricket Board in implementing reforms that could lend credibility to the league and improve its appearance for both local and overseas participants.
The WCA president emphasized that in order for the BPL to grow further, there must be trust from players. Trustworthy payments, transparent leadership and smart governance might be enough to restore faith in the league while luring international superstars.
In a world of franchise cricket becoming more competitive by the day and, if Bangladesh are going to want their flagship T20 tournament to ever stand toe-to-toe with the most coveted leagues in cricket, raising the standards of the BPL might just be imperative.
